History

Nieuw Kijkduin

This historical landmark is built in 1852 (marked in eastern facade) by the family Kikkert and has a history as family house, it used to be called Nieuw Kijkduin. In those days the grounds were still part of Kurá di Shon Ki.

Nieuw Kijkduin has been meticulously restored by Stadsherstel Willemstad NV and architect Ronny Lobo in collaboration with Monumentenfonds (2022-2024). To showcase the unique architectural style and cultural value because of the floorplan typical of Curacao, the dormers, the façade lay-out with doors and windows positioned in five axes, the cornice and mouldings, the wooden shutter doors and windows and the fence of the premises.

We created a hybrid hospitality concept that fits with modern day community experience where people can stay for short or long-term. The building is divided in 15 apartments and rooms each with their own ensuite modern bathroom. On every floor there is a shared living room and kitchen, making it easy to connect with others.

Inside visitors can explore art expositions and exhibits that delve into the history of Ser’i Otrobanda as a celebration of the island’s heritage and a reminder of the enduring spirit of its people.
